Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM)
NC's CDM process lets students earn course credit by proving they've already mastered the material, rather than sitting through the class. We help students prepare for and pass these assessments.
The North Carolina Math Tutoring Initiative (NCMTI) exists to remove the barriers between motivated students and the math education they deserve.
We provide high-quality, completely free tutoring for middle and high school students across the state of North Carolina. We believe a student's growth in math should never be limited by what their family can afford.
What sets us apart is our focus on helping students skip and test out of math levels through Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) and level-skip placement. When a student is ready for more, we help them prove it and take the next step.
We also provide general tutoring for higher grade levels in math. Our instructors are extremely passionate and knowledgeable, which lets students understand math at a deeper level, not just memorize procedures for the next test.
In North Carolina, students can earn credit for a course without taking it, if they can demonstrate mastery. That's where we come in.

Many schools let strong students test into a more advanced course. We build focused review plans that close gaps and get students exam-ready.
Every student is different. We assess where you are, map exactly what a skip requires, and tutor you straight toward that target.
Good to know: CDM policies and deadlines vary by district and school. We'll help you understand your options, but always confirm specifics with your school counselor.
NCMTI is just getting started. Our vision is to grow into a statewide network of passionate student instructors reaching learners in every corner of North Carolina, while keeping every session free.
Whether you need a tutor or want to become one, there's a place for you in the initiative.
